Hybrid WFR Recertification Description

Wilderness First Responders are required to recertify every three years. The Hybrid Wilderness First Responder Recertification is a combination of online and onsite content that requires approximately 8-10 hours of instruction in an online learning environment and two days of coursework at our training facility. This course reviews principles and skills learned in the WFR course, updates students on curriculum changes, and reviews medical scenarios in remote environments. Please note that food and lodging are not provided for H-WFC courses.

This course will be held at the RMI Training facility in Bellingham, WA.

I really enjoyed the WFR Course I took in Bellingham in December. It was taught by three enthusiastic instructors who each contributed with specific skill sets. The scenarios were set up well and the general atmosphere of the class was very positive. I was able to learn a lot.

I took this course in Seattle and feel very competent in applying the skills i gained from this course into a wilderness setting. I work in wilderness therapy; and, while my classmates were taking the course for a diverse assortment of outdoor applications, i felt as though my professors were attentive and adaptive to this. we ended up with a strong community of outdoor enthusiasts and industry professionals–who became friends by the end of the course! there was good energy and dynamic between the instructors.

Excellent instructor, lots of hands-on activities, good printed resources, fun classmates and offered close to home. I’m a novice mountaineer and have young children. I took the class to be prepared (and feel like a responsible friend/spouse/parent) in the backcountry. I think the only “con” is the time and expense of the class. If you can swing that, then it’s definitely money well spent (and I paid out of pocket).

The instructor was excellent which made the class even more enjoyable! Great, small class size, I gained and enormous amount of knowledge. If you are looking for a WFR course I would highly recommend Remote Medical International and their instructors!

This was my second time taking a full WFR course. As a professional mountain guide, WFR certification is a prerequisite to employment in most cases, and the training is both valuable and important. This being my first experience with RMI, (after having taken my original WFR and 4 + re-certs with other organizations), I was very impressed; they did a phenomenal job. The instructors were fantastic. Our two instructors had extensive training and teaching experience, and a collective work experience that included mountain guiding, emergency medical in a hospital setting, ski patrolling, dive medicine, and research medicine, in sites ranging from Belize to Antarctica. Their diverse backgrounds and familiarity with the subject matter and the flow of the course made things run smoothly and kept our interest high. When possible, they expanded on the curriculum, for example demonstrating and training us on a variety of oxygen delivery systems, which added value to the course for me. The facility was solid, scenarios were comprehensive and well run. Overall I was very impressed by the job RMI did; I really got more than my money’s worth out of this course. In fact, due to their performance, I decided to sign up for their REMT course later that summer!

As a Firefighter/Paramedic with a high call volume in the urban setting, I wanted to broaden my knowledge of wilderness medicine. This course far exceeded my expectations! The instructors were very professional and highly motivating. The course location was excellent and allowed for very realistic/dramatic “hands-on” practicals. I came away from the course with a greatly enhanced knowledge of Wilderness Medicine, which, I’ll be able to utilize in every aspect of my outdoor activities. I highly recommend this course for anyone with a desire to be in the great outdoors!

As a professional mountain guide, WFR certification is requisite to my practice and employment. I had previously completed a WFR course, as well as four + recertifications (all through other companies/organizations). I was fortunate to choose Remote Medical for my “second round” of the full curriculum; they did a phenomenal job.
The instructors were fantastic. Our two instructors had extensive training and teaching experience, and a collective work experience that included mountain guiding, emergency medical work in a hospital setting, ski patrolling, dive medicine, and research medicine. Their diverse backgrounds and familiarity with the subject matter and the flow of the course were valuable to me as a student. When possible, they expanded on the curriculum, for example demonstrating and training us on a variety of oxygen delivery devices, which added value to the course for me.
The facility was great, allowing for regular outdoor scenarios, including a complex night exercise.
As someone who had previously taken this curriculum (and who has need for it in my profession), I was realy impressed with the job RMI did; I really got more than my money’s worth out of this course. In fact, due to their performance, by the end of the week I had decided to sign up for their REMT course later that summer!
